Patient Survey 2024
Fair and Adequate Resourcing of General Practice in Wales
General Practice in Wales is under significant and growing strain. GP numbers are declining, demand is rising, and practices are struggling to recruit and retain staff.
At Birchgrove Surgery, we ask our patients to treat all of our members of staff with the same level of respect you would expect to receive.
Our care navigators are here to help guide you to the most appropriate healthcare professional to address your needs, this may not always be a GP.
We operate a zero-tolerance policy at Birchgrove Surgery and any abusive conduct towards our colleagues, such as shouting, swearing and threatening behaviour will not be tolerated.
Any patient behaving in such a way will be asked to leave the premises and may receive a written warning and/or be subsequently removed from our patient list. Our members of staff also reserve the right to contact the police in response to threatening and violent behaviour.
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation and would encourage you to continue to work with us rather than against us, at this time of unprecedented pressure on our services.
Many thanks
Welcome to Birchgrove Surgery
Birchgrove Surgery was first established in the 1920's.
The Practice is a Partnership of 5 GP's - Dr Jeremy Davies, Dr Stephanie Richards, Dr Meleri Wyn, Dr Sion Dafydd and Dr Spurthi Vemulapalli. They are aided by Dr Jane Patel, and Dr Toby Musson.
As a training practice, we also have GP registrars who support our team during their training.
The main surgery moved to its present location in August 2005; we also run a branch surgery in Rhiwbina Clinic.
The surgery and the services we provide are designed to be fully accessible to disabled users. Please make a member of the practice team aware if you have any special needs - we will be happy to help.
NHS Wales App
The NHS Wales App is available at Birchgrove Surgery.
Before you start
To use the NHS Wales App you must be registered with a GP in Wales.
You can access NHS Wales services such as making appointments*, ordering repeat prescriptions and viewing medication records using the App.
To access GP services online via the App, you must:
- have a fully verified NHS login, or a valid photo ID to set one up
- be aged 16 or over.
*Please note that availabilty shown on the app is upto date, if no routine appointments are available on the app, this will be the same if you contacted the surgery.
Text Message Notifications
We want to communicate with our patients in the most effective way possible, whether in person or by other means.
We already utilise SMS text messaging to communicate with our patients for the following reasons:
- to confirm an appointment
- Appointment reminders
- Invitations for long term condition reviews
- Invitations for eligible clinics e.g. Flu
We will shortly be looking at utilising the text messaging service for a broader range of services, where applicable.
Please update your consent for SMS text messaging HERE
Taking Good Photographs for GP viewing
Many of you will already be used to sending in photographs to us, on request of the GP or receptionist.
Prior to taking your photographs and sending them to the Practice Manager email address, please click the link below and read our handy guide to getting the best quality photographs out of your smartphone...
Please note that you should not be sending in photographs unless you have been asked to - you will need to arrange an appointment first with reception before we can process any pictures. Please do not photograph intimate body parts. If you have any questions, just let us know.
