How To Make An Appointment

All appointments with our GPs and nurses are booked in advance - we do not run open-access surgeries.

Appointments for non-urgent matters are usually available within two weeks, however if you wish to see a particular clinician, you may have to wait longer. Appointments may be booked up to 4 weeks in advance.

To make an appointment at either or our two sites, please call 02920 522344.

You can register for the NHS Wales App to book routine appointments.  Please click on the link for registration:  NHS Wales App

Routine appointments:  Phone the surgery at 10.00am or 2.00pm

In times where the demand for urgent consultations increases, the number of routine appointments available may become limited. Routine appointments where available are released on a daily basis which means you may be asked to call back the following day if there are none available.

Urgent appointments: Phone the surgery between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm

Urgent appointments are available daily but are for urgent issues that cannot wait. All requests will be reviewed by a doctor and you may be advised your request is a routine matter.

When you call the surgery to make an appointment, the receptionist will ask you if you require an urgent or a routine appointment.  Reception staff are trained to provide advice and care navigation to all patients, in order that you can be directed to the most appropriate healthcare professional, which may not always be a GP.

Effective signposting will include referral to your community pharmacy for conditions which fall under the Common Ailments Scheme, Dentists for a teeth-related issues and Opticians for all eye-related problems.

We also have access to community physiotherapy services and mental health workers, which can be accessed without the need to see or speak to your GP. Please enquire with reception.

Appointments

To assist us in ensuring surgeries run to time, we request that you arrive punctually for your appointment. It may not be possible for the doctor to see patients arriving more than 10 minutes after their appointment time.

It is normally only possible for the doctor to discuss ONE problem in one appointment. Should you have multiple issues to discuss, we recommend booking a double appointment.

If you are booked in for a telephone consultation with a GP, please note that the call-back may come at any point during the working day of your booking. It is important to keep your phone available, with the ringer on, throughout the day. The GP will only attempt to call you twice. Should you not be around to respond to your requested callback appointment, you will need to make a new telephone consultation appointment request.

If you are attending the surgery for an appointment we would like to encourage you to wear a mask to protect yourself and others.

Chaperones

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. This chaperone may be a family member or friend. On occasions you may prefer a formal chaperone to be present, i.e. a trained member of staff. Wherever possible we would ask you to make this request at the time of booking an appointment. At times, the GP/nurse may request for a formal chaperone to be present for some examinations; please be assured that our staff are trained for the role and your confidentiality, privacy and dignity will be our priority at all times.

Home Visit Requests

We ask that requests for home visits are made before 10.30am.  Requests after 10.30am should be for urgent matters only and will be assessed by the on call doctor.

Home Visits are usually carried out at lunchtime and you will be visited either by a GP, or in some cases by a Paramedic.

Please make us aware if there are any special requirements for accessing your property such as a key safe code, pets etc.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and the Doctor may contact you by telephone beforehand to decide if a home visit is appropriate and how urgently a visit is needed.

Reception staff will ask all patients who are requesting a home visit for details of the medical problem and will also take a contact telephone number in order for the Doctor to call the patient back to assess the urgency.  Home visits are only undertaken where they are deemed clinically necessary by the GP. Remember we have much better facilities for seeing you and examining in the surgery premises.

Cancel an Appointment

There has been an increase in the number of 'Did not Attend' appointments recently.  We would like to remind you that it is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient.

If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment.

Persistent defaulters may be removed from the practice patient list and asked to register at another practice.

To cancel your appointment:

Either telephone us on 02920 522344  or email us on practice.manager.w97021@wales.nhs.uk

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about any appointments you have booked with a GP, provided your booking was made 48 hours in advance of the actual appointment date/time.

To receive this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address - your mobile number in particular.
