Spirometry
We undertake spirometry at the surgery to help diagnose and manage COPD. If you have been invited for a lung function test, you MUST read the following information and instructions:
All Wales Green Agenda - Sustainable Inhaler Prescribing
NHS Wales has set a target to reduce the proportion of high global warming potential (GWP) from more than 70% to less than 20% by 2025.
Meter-dose inhalers (MDIs) contain hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) – a propellant that pushes the medication out of the inhaler device so it can be breathed in. HFCs contain powerful greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming.
Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs) do not require a propellant, and therefore, have a much lower carbon footprint.
Speak to our asthma nurses about switching your inhaler from an MDI to a DPI.
To support our goals of reducing our carbon footprint as a surgery, we ask that you return your used inhalers to your local pharmacy in order for it to be recycled appropriately.
Salbutamol Requests
Salbutamol inhalers (the blue inhaler used in acute attacks) are not routinely put on your repeat prescription. The reason for this is that we need to monitor your use of your reliever inhaler to ensure safe COPD management.
Smoking Cessation
If you're thinking about quitting smoking, there is support available from your local Pharmacist or our Practice Nurses.
